Date: 05 July 2019 (Friday)

Time: 10:00am – 11:30am

Venue: N21-G013, Lecture Hall, Research Building, University of Macau

The speaker is:

Prof. Prof. Chixiao CHEN, Assistant Professor, Fudan University

The Lecture is:

Machine Learning / AI Chances for Custom Circuits and Systems

Abstract:

With the recent striking success in exploring data-driven machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, there are intensive interests in designing custom intelligent circuits and systems. Both dedicated and general-purpose designs have been developed to embed AI onto mm-scale chips. In this talk, I will first review the challenges and chances confronted by intelligent circuits and system designs. I will highlight our approaches to explore the on-chip incremental learning and data-flow flexibility with two silicon proven prototypes. Afterwards, I will discuss the future opportunity on machine learning / AI assisted mixed-signal designs, and mixed-signal-assisted AI computing circuits.

Biography:

Chixiao Chen received B.S and Ph.D degrees in Microelectronics from Fudan University, China in 2010 and 2016 respectively. In 2015, he worked at Calterah Inc. as an analog/mixed-signal engineer. From 2016 to 2018, he was a postdoctoral research associate with the University of Washington, Seattle. Since 2019, he has been an assistant professor with Fudan University, Shanghai China. He is also the co-founder of silicontalks (矽说), a renowned semiconductor we-media in China.

His current research interest includes mixed signal integrated circuit and custom intelligent system designs. He was a recipient of STGA award in ISSCC 2014 and outstanding Ph.D research award of Fudan University.
