The University of Macau’s (UM) State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI is ranked No 1 in Asia and No 3 in the world, according to the results of papers accepted for presentation at the 64th International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, released earlier in San Francisco, United States.

In Asia, UM and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) are both ranked No 1, each with six papers accepted by the conference. The two are followed by Pohang University of Science and Technology and Samsung Electronics, each with five papers accepted. Occupying the third position are the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, each with four papers accepted.

Globally, UM is ranked No 3, along with KAIST (South Korea), Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands), Columbia University (United States), and the University of Texas at Dallas (United States), each with six papers accepted, next only to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (11 papers), and Mediatek (Taiwan, Singapore and US) (9 papers).

In the region of Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China, UM is followed by HKUST (4 papers), Huawei (1 paper), and Analog Devices International (ADI) Shanghai (1 paper). Since its founding in 2011, UM’s state key lab has repeatedly achieved good results in the field of microelectronics, maintaining a leadership position and a competitive edge over HKUST.

Internationally recognised as the ‘Chip Olympics’, the ISSCC only accepts the latest research achievements and papers from top universities and enterprises. The 200 papers to be presented at next year’s conference will be from world-famous research institutes, including renowned universities like Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Princeton University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Los Angeles; as well as leading companies in the field of integrated circuits, such as IBM, Intel, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Broadcom Corporation, and Analog Devices.
