The first Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students organized by the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (AMSV) and the Institute of Microelectronics (IME) of the University of Macau (UM) was successfully completed on 27th July 2023. The four-day camp attracted many outstanding undergraduate and master’s students from well-known universities across the Country, and finally 29 outstanding students were selected from around 150 applications to participate in the camp, all of whom came from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sun Yat-sen University, and other top-tier double first-class colleges and universities in the field of electronics. This is the first time for IME to organize a summer camp for students from Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau universities, aiming to enhance the close communication between outstanding students from universities and to provide a platform for students who are interested in IC design and have the desire to further their studies to have an in-depth understanding of the AMSV and IME.
The summer camp was very rich in content. On the morning of July 25, the students first visited the UM Campus, UM Library and AMSV. Prof. Guo Mingqiang, the Camp organizer, gave a welcome speech and shared his knowledge about analog and mixed-signal ICs with the students. Prof. Rui Martins, Director of IME, was invited to give a welcome speech and introduce the development of the Laboratory. In order to provide students with a broader understanding of the cutting-edge advances in various fields, a number of professors from IME, including Prof. Lei Ka-Meng, Prof. Huang Mo, Prof. Yu Wei-Han, Prof. Peng Yatao, Prof. Jiang Yang and Prof. Guo Mingqiang were invited to share the research directions and experiences of their respective groups on 25th and 26th July, which aroused enthusiastic discussions among students.
As the participating students are all from the field of microelectronics, Prof. Guo Mingqiang’s team also customized the simulated integrated circuit design course for the participating students, so that each participating student was able to carry out the actual hands-on circuit simulation, and realized the completion of the basic integrated circuit design, the actual hands-on experience of the chip design process. In the afternoon of 26th July, Prof. Sin Sai-Weng, Deputy Director of AMSV and Deputy Director (Academic) of IME, delivered a closing speech and awarded a certificate of completion to each participating student, highly affirming the students’ enthusiasm for learning.
This camp has promoted the cooperation and exchanges between UM and the top institutions in Mainland, demonstrated the cutting-edge achievements of AMSV and IME, and attracted more outstanding students to study at UM.
