Neural Network-based Modeling of Power Electronic Converters for Simulation Acceleration

Abstract:

Nowadays, conducting detailed numerical simulations of power electronic converters is time-consuming due to the iterative solution of highly nonlinear equations with fine time steps. Conventional analytical-based models often struggle to overcome this computational burden due to the intrinsic nonlinearities and switching behavior of power electronics converters. Since a neural network is well-suited for this nonlinear modeling issue and enables replacing fine-time-step iteration with a larger-step forward propagation, it becomes a promising solution to accelerate converter simulations.

This talk will introduce a novel data-driven approach to modeling power electronics converters based on neural ordinary differential equations (ODE). The presented model eliminates the iterative solution of nonlinear equations by being data-driven and thus accelerates the simulation. This talk will cover the following key topics: 1) The dominant paradigm in converter simulation; 2) Speed bottlenecks of analytical models; 3) Neural Network-based modeling approaches for power electronics converters; 4) Modeling the converters based on Neural ODE.
