The applications of molecular diagnostic in pathogen detection

Abstract:

This talk discusses the design considerations of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for IoT and biomedical applications, with particular focus on subthreshold ADCs. The problem is fundamentally driven by energy-efficient SoC designs where the analog and digital cores share the same supply voltage. Ultra-low voltage design is also driven by energy-harvesting applications. We try to accommodate design challenges from transistor-level analog techniques, while the digital-assisted design aspects are also studied. A 0.15V-supply-voltage nanowatt ADC was demonstrated and a series of 0.25V/0.3V/0.4V delta-sigma ADCs were prototyped, which demonstrated the lowest supply voltage and highest resolution in sub-0.5V ADCs reported to date.

Biography:

Qiang Li received the B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China and the Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2001 and 2007, respectively. He has been working on analog/RF and mixed-signal circuits in both academia and industry, holding positions of Engineer, Senior Engineer, Project Leader, Technical Consultant in Singapore, and Associate Professor at the Aarhus University, Denmark. He is currently a full professor and head of the Institute of Integrated Circuits and Systems, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). He serves also as the vice dean of UESTC School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics. His research interests include ultra-low voltage and energy-efficient analog/RF circuits, data converters, and mixed-signal circuits for biomedical and sensing applications. Prof. Li has co-authored over 80 technical papers, 4 international patents and 2 books. He has served on various journal editorial boards and conference committees including SRP committee of ISSCC, and as a reviewer for a number of scientific publications and funding agencies. He is a Changjiang Young Scholar, and was a recipient of the National Program for Support of Top-Notch Young Professionals (1st Batch) and UESTC Teaching Excellence Award. He is the founding chair of IEEE Chengdu CASS/SSCS Chapter.
