Osteo-niches for biomaterials construction, functionalization, and stem cell manipulation

 

Abstract:

Bone is a hierarchical tissue, which is mainly comprised of collagen, hydroxyapatite, and cells. We have developed diverse functional biomaterials, including hydroxyapatite (HA), titanium (Ti), polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and hydrogels that imitate the chemical compositions and hierarchical structures of bony tissue from macro-, micro- and nano-scale levels. In this talk, he will also introduce how to manipulate/steer stem cell fates (proliferation, self-renewal, and differentiation) through these developed biomaterials for bone tissue engineering applications. The recent development of biofunctionalization that endows osteo-implants with multi-purpose functionalities (antisepsis, osseointegration, angiogenesis, and immunoregulation) will also be introduced.

 

 

Biography:

Yi Deng is currently an associate professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of Sichuan University, China. He graduated from Sichuan University, Chengdu, and received Doctor of Engineering at Peking University, Beijing. He joined to Sichuan University in 2016 after the graduation of doctor. He is focusing on the development of novel biomaterials for bone tissue engineering via mimicking in vivo osteogenic niches, and investigation of the interplays between these biomaterials and stem cells. He was awarded Hong Kong Scholar at 2017 and hosted some funds including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NFSC), and Sichuan Science and Technology Program. He published 62 SCI papers that have been cited for more than 924 times, and his H-index is 19.
