The Lecture is:

High-Efficiency LED Drivers for Automotive Applications

Abstract:

High-brightness LED lighting is a key technology in automotive vehicles. Switching converter based LED drivers are commonly adopted to deliver current through LEDs, and thus obtaining high efficiency in these LED drivers is crucial. However, wide input voltage range and high-frequency operation in the automotive environment significantly limit the power efficiency of these LED drivers due to the dominant switching power loss. To address the above issue, high-frequency soft switching has recently emerged. This presentation will first review common converter topologies and their loss limitations for automotive LED drivers. Various soft-switching schemes and their circuit implementations for the half-bridged LED drivers will then be discussed. The design of the ZVS gate drivers and level shifters to enable high-frequency soft switching in the LED drivers over a wide input range will also be presented.
