The Lecture is:

Multiple bias-flip designs towards piezoelectric energy harvesting enhancement

Abstract:

Harvesting mechanical vibration energy using piezoelectric materials can provide clean energy for powering distributed devices, such as wireless sensor nodes; in the meanwhile, by removing redundant vibration energy from a mechanical structure, the overall damping effect is increased, and structural safety is reinforced. The energy harvesting power conditioning circuit intervenes the energy couple in the electromechanical system from the electrical side. Literature has shown that the improvement of energy harvesting circuit leads to a significant increase on the harvesting capability of a piezoelectric energy harvesting (PEH) system. This talk first introduces the evolution of existing PEH circuits. A general model is derived by summarizing the working principle of existing circuits; the maximum harvesting capability of PEH circuits is further investigated. Based on this theory, the speaker and his research group have invented novel efficient synchronized multiple bias-flip power conditioning circuits for PEH. This talk will also analyze other practical factors, which confine the further improvement of harvesting capability. These factors might come from mechanical, materials, or circuit aspects. The analysis help the audiences to have a more comprehensive understanding towards the design and improvement of PEH power conditioning circuits.
